Project Description

Implementation of International Maritime Conventions (SOLAS, MARPOL, STCW, STCW-F and Member State Audit Scheme)

We provide advice to governments in the implementation of International Maritime Conventions. We also advice to Maritime Administrations in the implementation of the latest amendments to international conventions.

We have a group of international maritime experts who have worked in the International Maritime Organization (IMO), with extensive experience in the development and implementation of international maritime conventions.

SOLAS – The International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) is an international maritime treaty which requires Signatory flag states to ensure that ships flagged by them comply with minimum safety standards in construction, equipment and operation.

We provide advice to maritime administrations, shipowners, and ship manning companies in the implementation of the latest amendments to SOLAS Convention and its ISM and ISPS codes.

MARPOL – The International Convention for the Prevention of Pollution from Ships (MARPOL) is the main international convention covering prevention of pollution of the marine environment by ships from operational or accidental causes.

We provide advice to maritime administrations, shipowners, and ship manning companies in the implementation of the latest amendments to MARPOL Convention.

STCW – The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978, as amended, sets the standards of competence for seafarers internationally.

Amongst its provisions is a requirement for Parties to the Convention to communicate information to IMO on the measures adopted to implement the Convention nationally. That information is subject to scrutiny to ensure that the Convention is being given ‘full and complete effect’ and, if this is so, the Party features on the “List of confirmed STCW Parties” and “Information related to Reports of Independent Evaluation”.

We provide advice to maritime administrations, shipowners, and ship manning companies in the implementation of the 2010 Manila amendments.

We provide advice to maritime administrations in the preparation of related information to independent evaluation reports.

STCW-F – The International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel, 1995 (STCW-F 1995), sets the certification and minimum training requirements for crews of seagoing fishing vessels of 24 metres in length and above.

The STCW-F Convention is the first to establish basic requirements on training, certification and watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel on an international level. The Convention prescribes minimum standards relating to training, certification and watchkeeping for Fishing Vessel Personnel, which countries are obliged to meet or exceed.

We provide advice to maritime administrations, fishing shipowners, and fishing ship manning companies in the implementation of the STCW-F Convention.

IMO Member State Audit Scheme (IMSAS)

Implementation of IMO treaty instruments lies with States that are Parties to those instruments. The Member State Audit aims to determine the extent to which these States give full and complete effect to obligations and responsibilities contained in a number of IMO treaty instruments in their capacity as flag, port and/or coastal States.

We provide advice to maritime administrations in preparing the visit of the Audit by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
